The Ultra Gel by 6d Sports Nutrition is the brand's highest-carbohydrate liquid gel, purpose-built for ultra-endurance athletes targeting carbohydrate intake rates of 90 to 120g per hour. Each 70ml gel delivers 45g of carbohydrates in a 1:1 glucose-to-fructose ratio, representing 1 Ultra Unit — the standardised energy measurement developed specifically for the 6d Ultra Series to meet the demands of efforts lasting 3 hours or more.
Where the Sports Series gel delivers 30g of carbohydrates per 45ml in a 2:1 ratio (optimised for efforts up to 3 hours and intakes up to 90g/hour), the Ultra Gel pushes the ceiling higher. At 45g per gel in a 1:1 ratio, it is specifically formulated to work alongside the Sports Series in combination strategies that allow athletes to reach 90, 105 or even 120g of carbohydrates per hour — intake levels now regularly seen among elite ultra-cyclists, Ironman triathletes and marathon runners who have invested in gut training.
The higher fructose proportion in the 1:1 ratio is a deliberate scientific choice. As carbohydrate intake rises above 60 to 70g per hour, glucose transporters become saturated and any additional glucose simply cannot be absorbed. Fructose uses a completely separate intestinal transporter (GLUT5), meaning a higher fructose proportion at very high intake rates is not just acceptable but necessary for maximum absorption efficiency.
